This is part of a blog series which are all about YOU and YOUR STORIES! Every item of jewellery has a story; creating such meaningful pieces is very special to us, and we love to see more of how your story is unfolding once your jewellery leaves our care.
Ooh this was a lovely commission to be part of - I have known Fly for such a long time, 10 years or so I think (oh dear, that makes me feel rather old!), he and Zoe make such a fabulous couple! He'd always said that when the time came, it would be me making "the ring" as they like my jewellery style and it's added sentiment to have a friend make something so special; but we all know how these things go, life changes, future plans adapt, etc etc... and so you just never really know if you will get that call.
BUT WOW! I was so absolutely thrilled when I got a message to say they were eloping and wanted me to make their super secret wedding rings... SECRET SQUIRREL AT THE READY!
We met up and chatted through design ideas and options, it was all very free-flowing and organic; I was allowed an awful lot of scope, and felt truly honoured to not only be asked to create a ring they wanted, but also to have such support and trust when it came down to design suggestions.
Knowing Zoe loves all things magical, the rainbow moonstone was a must - plus a cute pop of purple and a scattering of blues/lilacs to keep it interesting while not too wild. The diamonds (mostly from a family ring, but with a few new ones thrown in for good measure) add a classic touch and fun sense of sparkle, and the gold adds a warmth in terms of colour and emotion - as the bezel settings around the cabochon cut gemstones were made using Zoe's nanny's wedding band!
Fly wanted something rustic and organic looking, without it becoming overly fussy or too "designed", it had to be subtle enough and definitely practical, but while still looking unique. So we went for a simple band with a rusticly textured hammered finish - and with a secret hint of colour - the inside is half covered with the gold from a family ring.
I was super excited to make these rings and be a little part of the BIG day that would be a surprise to so many! And when the announcements started flowing on social media, I was truly honoured to be a part of it all.
It is a huge thing to have the confidence to have the wedding you truly want as individuals, so many are pressured into making changes or following traditions, but you said it perfectly when you wrote "make your own damn rules, it's your life and live it how you want".
You both looked fabulous! (and what lovely photos by Katy Prutton).
